Professor Assimina Pelegri has been elected to the chair position of the Engineering Sciences Segment (ESS) of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. The ESS supports and promotes the creation of technical content and activities through interactions with several entities; including ASME technical divisions, affiliated events and groups, and strategic partnerships with other external organizations. The ESS supports technical content development in heat transfer, fluids, environmental engineering, advanced materials, applied mechanics, bioengineering, noise control, acoustics, engineering management, safety engineering, risk analysis, and a range of other disciplines. As the Chair of the ESS, Prof. Pelegri will promote activities that enhance university-industry-government collaborations, direct the efforts of segment members to interdisciplinary themes (multiple divisions and groups), encourage the transition of research to commercialization, and focus the segment on providing timely engineering solutions to emerging challenges.
