Overview
The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) offers a graduate program in mechanical and aerospace engineering for students interested in pursuing M.Eng., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in an intellectually and academically stimulating environment.
The Packaging Engineering Master of Science degree is offered through the MAE department with dedicated faculty who have extensive experience in the field.
Our programs take pride in an environment that fosters collegial student-faculty relationships and prepares students for successful careers in industry, government and academia.
Graduate Degrees
We offer graduate degrees that reflect individual student goals from career advancement to research intensive.
This terminal professional degree is designed primarily for professionals working in industry or government. The program includes both on-campus hybrid and fully online options.
The MAE program offers several broad areas of specialization. These include Design and Control; Fluid Mechanics; Mechanics of Solids, Materials and Structures; and Thermal Sciences.
The Packaging Engineering MS program offers specialized courses in packaging materials, design, innovation, and applications.
Graduate students earning a degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering may opt to pursue a certificate in focused concentrations including advanced manufacturing, robotics, space systems, business innovation, and additive manufacturing.
The doctoral degree is offered in the field of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. It is an advanced research-orientated degree with the goal of entering academe or a research-focuses individual or governmental laboratory.
Bachelor of Science Degree/Master of Science Degree (BS/MS)
The combined BS-MS/ BS-ME program enables undergraduates to pursue an accelerated master's degree. This highly intensive academic program gives students more research experience and better prepares them for research careers or further graduate study.
Research Areas
Departmental research is loosely grouped under the following banners: Design and Control; Solid Mechanics, Materials and Structures; Fluid Mechanics; and Thermal Sciences.
Faculty
The department includes 28 internationally renowned faculty members in residence, who teach and conduct research on a broad range of topics. The graduate faculty guide students through the research process, from problem formulation to publication in top-tier journals and conferences to filing patent applications and technology transfer.
