Mr. Panayiotis Kousoulas has been selected as an ASME Donald O. Thompson Graduate Fellow for the 2024-25 academic year (maximum two years). The Donald O. Thompson graduate fellowship was established to provide funding to support professional development for outstanding graduate students nondestructive evaluation (NDE), diagnostics, and prognostics, pursuing a graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering and encourage engineering education as a profession.
Panayiotis Kousoulas is a second-year PhD student in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department of Rutgers University, where he received his BS (2022) and MS (2024) degrees in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Mr. Kousoulas’ research focuses on machine learning of fatigue behavior of additively manufactured new alloys. He has been a part of the New Jersey Advanced Manufacturing Initiative at Rutgers since 2021, having joined as an undergraduate student in his senior year as a James J. Slade Scholar. He and his research advisor, Dr. Yuebin Guo, have 3 publications on the qualification and certification of additive manufacturing materials including the impact of printing defects on fatigue. In April of 2024, Mr. Kousoulas was selected as ASME’s 2024-2025 Donald O. Thompson Graduate Fellow and will incorporate nondestructive evaluation techniques in his metal additive manufacturing fatigue research.
