In naming Lin to this appointment, School of Engineering Dean Alberto Cuitiño says, “Our school’s strong global standing is an important component of our graduate and undergraduate engineering programs and positively contributes to our campus community. Hao will bring his energy, leadership, and understanding of global access to developing collaborative educational programs with international partner institutions as well as implementing strategic plans for advancing our international visibility and programs.”

The School of Engineering currently enrolls more than 1,000 international graduate and undergraduate students representing 40 countries. The school also offers cooperative education opportunities with partner institutions for international students who have completed two or three years of foundational math, science, and engineering courses at their home institutions. Commonly referred to as 2+2, 3+1, or 3+2 programs, partnerships have been established in selected majors between the School of Engineering and universities in Vietnam, Turkey, Argentina, China, and India, among others.

In this new position, Lin looks forward to shaping and advancing School of Engineering international programs to the benefit of the entire engineering campus. “International students bring global perspectives and cultural awareness to our student body’s engineering education while also providing an opportunity for international students to enhance career and collaborative opportunities, as well as language and communication skills,” he says.

Hao believes, “Students from different academic backgrounds and training learn greatly from each other. When taken together, this all contributes to the quality of Rutgers’ engineering education.”
