Kuo Chen Wins Best Student Paper Award

Professor Jingang Yi doctoral student Kuo Chen has received the 2014 ASME Dynamic Systems and Control Division (DSCD)’s Best Student Paper on Mechatronics for his work on An integrated physical-learning model of physical human-robot interactions: A bikebot riding example, which was presented last year at ASME Dynamic Systems and Control Conference (DSCC).

Mr. Kuo was the first and also presenting author of the paper at last year’s DSCC in San Antonio, TX. The paper was also co-authored with our lab alumni Dr. Yizhai Zhang who is now an associate professor of Northwestern Polytech University in China. Kuo’s paper was also one of five finalists for the 2014 DSCC’s Best Student Paper Award. The ASME DSCD Best Student Paper award on Mechatronics is nominated and selected from the papers in broader mechatronics areas with a student as the first author presented in the previous year’s American Control Conference (ACC), IEEE/ASME Int. Conf. on Adv. Intelligent Mechatronics (AIM), ASME DSCC and Int. Symp. on Flexible Automation (ISFA). This year, there were 10 nominations and the Award Committee (five professors) ranked all papers and finally decided to select Kuo’s paper as the winner. More details about the award and some past awardees can be found at http://aimrl.gatech.edu/TMech/DSCD%20Awards.html#DSCD. An award certificate and a check of $750 was presented to Kuo during the general DSCD meeting at the 2015 ASME DSCC in Columbus, OH this past October.
